Since 1977 Great Waltham has been twinned with Ceyrat, a small town in the French Auvergne region. Exchange visits are organised every other year with guests visiting from Ceyrat in the alternate years. This is very much a twinning group for families, oldies and youngsters with the emphasis on having fun and making friends. New members are always welcome, whether to host, visit France, or just to join in with our activities |

The Twinning have been busy so far this year starting with a Gourmet Night in February where 48 people enjoyed a great evening at The White Horse in Pleshey. Many thanks to Jan and Mike Smail for supporting us. Then in April there was a very enlightening Family Quiz Night. As part of the Great Waltham May Festival the annual boules competition was again held at in the school grounds. Although a blustery day it was good to see some new people joining in. In June Mike and Alison hosted a BBQ which was very good. The main event of the year was the Ceyratois to visit us in July. This year we have been very fortunate in that we applied for and have been given a grant of about 13,000 Euros from the EU’s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency to assist in financing the visit to help promote youth and culture between our two towns. This was a major achievement as in England only Oxford, Cheltenham and Stafford received more than us. |
