What is a Children’s Centre? A Children’s Centre is a first local port of call for all families with young children, whether they need advice and support on their child’s health, development or care, or help with the challenges parents face every day in bringing up their children in the crucial early years. The Sunflower Children’s Centre is a Sure Start Children’s Centre covering Broomfield and the Walthams and Boreham and the Leighs. It is run by 4Children a national charity “all about children and families”. The Sunflower Children’s Centre is based in Broomfield library and runs activities in Broomfield, Great Leighs and Boreham. We are currently developing links with local schools, pre schools and baby and toddler groups to ensure services are delivered where and when they are needed We work with partners such as Health Visitors, Midwives, Jobcentre Plus, National Child Minder Association, schools, preschools and community groups. We offer information or support around childcare and early education including support for childminders, parent support and family outreach, child and family health services, employment support and information or activities for groups such as young parents, lone parents, fathers, grandparents, Black and minority ethnic families, families with disabled children and disabled parents A Family Outreach Worker can offer 1 to 1 support to families. 4Children works with Government, local authorities, primary care trusts, children’s service providers and children and parents to ensure joined up support for all children and young people aged 0-19 in their local community” www.4children.org.uk
